“Inner Freedom” is a 32 kg Muonionalusta iron meteorite riveted with leather straps. I found this meteorite myself, on my own expedition to Sweden in 2017.
The straps symbolize external frames: stereotypes, paradigms, rules, ideas and limitations. The meteorite stands for space, infinity and the nature of things — the space within.
This work is another attempt to use images and metaphors, symbols and forms to unite and to divide things that can be one and, at the same time, completely different.
No matter what is outside — what matters is the space inside.
This was the second work of the Inner Freedom project and the first to be shown in the USA, at Art Basel in Miami in November 2018. There were only three weeks to prepare the object, which is very little, but with the support of friends the exhibition happened. A year later, the same work was shown at UCLA.
